2023 NEA/RA Delegate Election
It’s that time of the year for AEA elections!
The Executive Board Positions open are:
Vice President, Treasurer, Middle Schools’ Liaison, One (1) Elementary Schools’ Liaison
These positions have a 3-year term: July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2026
AEA will also be electing up to 5 local delegates to attend the NEA/RA Convention which will be held in Orlando, FL approximately July 1 – July 7, 2023. AEA will reimburse two (2) delegates up to the CTA determined spending limit with appropriate receipts. All other elected delegates will be responsible for their own costs.
Candidates must be an active member of AEA/CTA/NEA for a period of not less than one year.
Ballots will list names of candidates in the current CTA official alphabet order:

- Applications completed and returned to the AEA office or via email by 4:00 p.m.

- Electronic Ballots to personal emails. VOTE!

- Election closes at 11:55 p.m.

- Election Certified and results available
Executive Board members are required to attend all regularly scheduled Representative Council, Executive Board, and Committee meetings. Most meetings are scheduled after school on Mondays.

Duties of AEA Delegates to the NEA Rep Assembly in Orlando, FL
Vice President
- Attend all Rep Council meetings, all Executive Board meetings, and any other meetings as deemed necessary by the President.
- Performs any duties assigned by the President.
- The Vice President also assumes the role of the President – temporarily – should the President be unavailable to serve for an extended period-of-time.
Treasurer
- Exercise general supervision over the receipt and disbursement of all AEA’s funds.
- Receive all funds for AEA and be responsible for the safekeeping and accurate accounting of these funds.
- Disburse funds for all obligations, including dues and fees, rent, reimbursements, payroll, and other bills.
- Have official custody of all funds and property of AEA.
- Act as custodian for the safekeeping and maintenance of all property and supplies of AEA.
- Supervise and prepare the annual budget and periodic financial reports, and the preparation and distribution of the annual financial report.
- Prepare the annual budget.
- Prepare and present timely reports of the financial status of AEA.
- Submit an annual financial report to the Executive Board and Rep Council.
- Submit timely membership and financial reports to CTA, NEA, and other agencies as required by policies and law (including, but not limited to, information tax returns and annual PERB financial reports).
- Prepare financial papers for the annual audit.
- Attend monthly Executive Board meetings and monthly Rep Council meetings.
Middle Schools’ Liaison and Elementary Schools’ Liaison
- Provide a voice on the Executive Board and at the Rep Council meetings specifically for elementary, middle school, or high school teachers.
- Enable the president and the Executive Board to carry out the leadership tasks assigned to them by our members.
- Communicating vital information to their site reps.
- If a site does not have a rep, the liaison will be responsible for communicating with all unit members at that site.
- Be a support and resource person for all site representatives.
- Follow up if a Faculty Rep is not attending Rep Council Meetings and/or not holding monthly site meetings.
- Other duties and responsibilities delegated by the President and/or Executive Board.
- Serves as a voting member of the Executive Board and is required to attend all Executive Board and Rep Council Meetings.
- Serve on one of AEA’s standing committees.
Duties of AEA Delegates to the NEA Rep Assembly in Orlando, FL
- Each delegate will be expected to arrive in Orlando, Florida in time to ensure registering as an official AEA delegate to the Rep Assembly with both the California delegation and NEA.
- Each delegate will be expected to attend all caucuses of the California delegation. Normally the caucus begins at 7:00 a.m. daily. Delegates must be registered with the California delegation to participate in the caucus. Delegates are expected to remain through the convention.
- Each delegate shall attend all business meetings of the RA.
- Each delegate should take into consideration CTA State Council and caucus policy when voting.
- Each delegate is encouraged to participate fully in all activities of the California delegation.
- Each delegate, state and local, will be expected to sit with his/her Service Center Council delegation (ALCOSTA) on the RA floor or to inform the appropriate person where he/she will be seated. This is to ensure communication regarding RA business and/or personal emergency information of concern to the delegate, as well as to verify attendance.
