​bargaining proposals 2022-23

The full contract is open for bargaining for the 2022-23 year. We are bargaining Articles 1, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, and 34

BARGAINING SESSION #6 -  February 9, 2023

Tentative agreement Reached!

The articles below are all of the final, agreed upon language from the 2022-2023 bargaining year. This language must be ratified by the membership of AEA in order to be sent to the school board for final approval and adoption into our contract.

MOU Restorative Practices Expansion
Here is what to expect in the coming weeks:

​*Wednesday, February 15th 3:30-4:30 VIRTUAL Membership Q&A for Tentative Agreement.

*Wednesday, February 15-Tuesday, February 21: Voting by e-mail
*Wednesday, February 22: Present ratification to the school board. (Assuming AEA ratifies the TA) Assuming the School Board approves the agreement, the new rate of pay will be on the end of March paycheck.
*Retroactive paycheck should come with the end of April paycheck.
Here is a brief overview of the changes to each of our tentatively agreed upon articles.

Article 1- Agreement
  • Agreed to bargain for this 3-year cycle.
Article 9 - Employee Work Year
  • Included TOSAs to extended work year.
Article 11- Hours of Employment
  • If a different schedule is needed at a school site than the contractual 7 hour 5 minute days, 7 hour Fridays, it will be provided to employees before the first working day of the school year.
  • Student Planning Meetings (IEPs, 504s, and SSTs) will be paid after one hour beyond contract hours per month.
  • Elementary teachers will receive 2 Wednesdays for report cards for third trimester grades this year.
Article 12 - Salary
  • Agreed to a 10% increase.
  • Agreed to eliminate the cap of years of service upon entry to the district. All new and current employees will be placed on their appropriate year of service step retroactively to the beginning of this year (July 1, 2022). The process for auditing your years will be sent to all members as soon as we have the details.
Article 13 - Benefits
  • Starting April 1, AUSD will fully cover the cost of vision plans.
  • Starting April 1 and through the 2024-2025 school year, AUSD will fully cover the cost of dental.
  • AUSD will pay the following towards medical caps:
  • Single $12,216 (no change)
  • 2 Party $19,740/year ($1,645/month)
  • Family $25,656/year ($2,138/month)
  • Cash in Lieu Increased to $3,720 per year
Article 15 - Class Size
For the 2023-2024 school year:
  • K-3: 26 max with up to an additional 2 students for pay ($20/day), average remains 24
  • 4-5: 30 max with up to an additional 2 students for pay ($20/day) and the average reduced to 29
  • 6-12: 36 max A-G classes (agreed upon last year)
  • SDC classes will not have a "warm body count"
  • During the first 20 days, teachers will receive pay for any student physically present over the class size max ($20/day or $4/period)
  • Increased/added stipends for combo classes, DI classes, and SPED teachers, school psychologists, SLPs, and Program Specialists.
  • All SDC classes, elementary and secondary, now have a documented class size maximum with improvements to most grade spans.
  • Increased pay for extra students on a SPED caseload or in class ($25/day)
  • APE caseload reduced to 46 students.
  • MOU for 2 classroom aides in every elementary SDC classroom for the next 2 school years.
Article 16 - Safety Conditions for Employees
  • Agreed to the creation of a joint safety committee.
  • A Restorative Practice MOU was signed expanding coverage to all secondary sites with support for elementary sites.
Article 34 - Alternative Programs and/or Schools
  • Agreed to incorporating old MOU language and past practice regarding Alternative Programs and/or Schools, including Prospects, Encore, Adult Ed., Continuation, Dual Immersion, and Virtual Academy.​
